Information on ClubFeet in Black and White

sara's Story

On Dec. 21st, 2005, my son, Mason, was born with bilateral clubbed feet. I had no clue as to what that was or what caused it. We didn't get professional treatment till he was 2 months old with Shriners Hospital in Greenville South Carolina. A 3 hour trip from our home in Tennessee each week. He went through the casting and at 4 months old, they clipped both heel cordes. He remained in casts until 8 months, then he had the major surgery with 2 pins in the right foot and none in the left. During the time in the big casts with the bar between to keep him from moving his legs, the pin in the bottom of the right foot got lost in his foot and had to be removed. He was recasted form another 12 weeks. He was then placed in AFO braces until March 2007. He began walking at 17 months. Now at 18 months he is doing great. He is pigeon toed now, but they say it will correct in time. We go back every 6 months. I am pregnant with my 3rd child and I am praying that his feet will be okay. I highly recommend shriners hospital. they are truely a God Send.

I was born with bilateral club feet 29 years ago> I had multiple corrective surgeries and the most helpful were performed at the Shriners in San Francisco(located now in Sacramento). Coincidentally, my two year old is named Mason>>>

I also had a son with bilateral club feet. He was in casts at 10 days old. He is almost 22 months old and he is a WILD man!!! I also took him to Shriners once a week, almost an eight hour trip. I LOVE Shriners!
