Warwick's Story
I am 46 years old and from what I can see I was born with bad clubbed feet.Thankfully I had a marvellous operation in South Africa and was in plastercasts for a year and a half.
Growing up had its ups and downs. My mother was very strong willed and refused to allow me to feel self pity and with being the youngest of three boys there were no allowances made for me. Naturally, this made me very competitative, especially in sport.
Moving to the UK I saw many doctors for check ups and I always proudly told them my goals ; to snow ski, Parachute, and play all first team sports, all of which I achieved.
I was offered another corrective operation aged 18 but figured why spoil something that works!
The low points, especially in my adolescence, was having to wear corrective boots which I refused to wear at about 15 yrs old. Also the fear of girls seeing my thin calves and scars.
This all became easier as I got older and more confident.
Clubbed feet in my opinion has not held me back however as I get older I experience more pain in my ankle joints.
I would be very interested to hear from older sufferers and what options there are.
