Heather's Story

I am 22 years old and when I was born I had a severe clubbed right foot. My foot was casted for a year and when this did not help I had my first surgery when I was about 1.

My parents were told that I would have trouble walking and there might even be a chance that I wouldnt walk. I am very proud to say that not only did I walk but I played soccer for almost 10 years. I have always had a lot of pain but I have learned to deal with it and find ways around my differentness.

When I was 20 I had my second surgery where my foot was rebuilt and fused. I spent 3 months in bed recovering. After still having problems I had another surgery in may of 2007 and now my foot feels better than ever.

I have started running again ( its been 3 years since I last could ) and am letting NOTHING stop me.

Heather, i myself was born with a very severe left clubbed foot and my leg from the knee down is also underdeveloped. I would really like to know how this has effected you socially. I've always felt that this would be especially difficult for women because of the pressure society puts on women to look a certain way. your reasponse would be greatly appreciated.
