Information on ClubFeet in Black and White

Dawn Dawson's Story

my son was born in 1995 with severe club feet after several operations his left foot is perfect but his right foot is no better his consultant wants to fit a frame but i am not at all sure he does everything that an 11 year old boy does.

He does suffer from pain an at the moment he has special shoes and wears a caliper i would love to hear from any1 whos child has had this operation or from themselves because i think this operation can only work for cosmetic reason to look like every1 else i dont think it will stop the pain is this operation really worth getting done

I was diagnosed with club hands and feet before I was born. It runs in our family generally in the females. I went in for surgery when I was 5 years old as did every other member of my family. I was so young at the time that I didn't really know what was going on and I was lucky enough to turn up with some pretty flat feet. Don't get me wrong I can't stand in heels for 15 minutes, but tennis shoes are great. However my little cousin was not as lucky she ended up having to have a second surgery on her left foot, so instead of learning how to walk once she had to learn 3 times. I wish I could say that shes a bouncing average child now, but we just discovered that she may have hip displasia. Things are going to be hard i promise you that, but in the end the flatter you sons feet get then the less pressure he'll have on his feet; definetly less hurting.

I also have a son, who has a right clubfoot and he also went through the casting and surgery and now they have him in AFO's but I'm not pleased with the results. He can't seem to keep them on. We have tried and tried. Is there anything else we can do. Please help me.

Worried,
Mother
