Information on Club Feet in Black and White

V Jessop's Story

my son daughter has club feet
Hi,
My son was born Febuary 2010.Both of his feet are clubbed he has had casts every week since he was born and two times they released the tendons on the back of his feet. when they released the tendons the first time the Dr did it in his office and didn't dive my son any anethesia or pain medicine. He almost quit breathing I was so mortified cause when he first told me about the tendon release I thought we would do outpatient surgery or something. Needless to say I changed Dr's and he had more casts and another tendon release and this time they did surgery right. He is 5 months old now and eveytime I ask the Dr's how this will affect him in the long run they tell me he will be completely fixed by 5 or 6 yrs old. I don't feel this is true. His feet are swollen and very sensative. Just touching them turns them red and he screams. I am just wondering if anyone else suffers with the same sensitivity? And is my son really going to be better by 5 or 6 yrs? I am not sure what kind of club feet he has i have never heard them say they just call it "club feet" to me. But both of his feet were turned in toward each other completely. I would love anyones suggestions on what I should do thanks. Verleen

My son had both feet clubbed. He did the ponsetti method as well.at five yrs old he grew so much his feet turned back in.I took him to Iowa where ponsetti trained several doctors and they recommended surgery.they did tendon transfers on both feet anfd Johnny was casted and in a wheelchair.he is now twelve and is an excellant athlete.however he has been complaining of pain in his feet.I am planning another visit to iowa to see what the experts think.I am hoping he does not need another surgery.all I can say is stay on top of it and keep him in the dennis brown shoes as much as you can.my wife would take them off alot and I wonder if that ci=ontributed to his relapse at five yrs old.you can email if you have any questions about what to expect.John

Hi there, i have an 11 week old daughter who has the same condition, she had casts on from 3 weeks old and had both tendons cut. When they cut the tendonthey did give her a gel to numb her feet. we are currently under going ponseti treatment and Molly is wearing the boots and bars for 23 hours a day! We have also been told this will be until she is 5 years old i think the correct term is bilateral tailepes ( club feet) Mollys feet also get a bit red and look sore but if we tighten her boots the soreness calms down so i think it must be wear the boots rub her feet. i have seem so many stories and so many different outcomes i am also getting concerned that Mollys feet may lapse back at a later stage!
