steve logan's Story
i have club feetat birth my toes touched my heals and the entire foot was turned backwards-left worse than right ;but both really deformed.Casts were used to attain some correction-then braces -then tendon lengthening repeatedly till near puberty just prior to skeletal hardening my ankles were fused along with some toes and tendons were cut on bottoms of feet and top tendons were manipulated to serve as functioning bottom tendons,These procedures were preformed at the Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City.I went there three different times once for over a year stay.I have alot of pain and always have .I also have what must be a good tolerance or threshold for pain and don't medicate beyond some Ibuprofin a few times a week, even though I could get anything I wanted probably.Pain is a part of life that is not such a big deal, the emotional wear of being afraid I will lose my ability to walk is more distressing,I don't want to go into a wheelchair again.I work hard to maintain my ambulation and alot of people don't know I'm crippled and those who do, forget as I try to live a normal lifestyle, fishing, kyaking, operating my business, and being a good Father and Husband.I feel sorry for the little ones who must follow in my twisted footsteps but it won't kill them if they can get through the big mess it can make and build a life worth living, maybe even a better life and depth of character for having to have to go through it all.I think my left foot could fail me and think an amputation and artificial leg would make it possible to keep going -as for now I just keep plowing along.Loads of love to all who are affected by this deformity--Steve
