Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Terry Ann Sigur's Story

i have club feet
Yes I was born with a clubbed foot with bone abnormality.I have had multiple surgeries as an infant and two as an adult. My last surgery almost push me over the edge. The doctor was suppose to do corrective surgery instead he messed my foot up .I ended up with two surgeries 3 pins 2 screws a bone graft ,not being able to run anymore and a lot of pain and swelling .As a nurse my job involves alot of walking and sometimes running.I am a mother of a four year old healthy son who was bless not to share in my birth defect.I'm really concern about my future as a nurse ,as my foot is getting worse with each passing year.I can hardly exercise due to foot pain,I just don't know who to turn to or what to do.I tried applying for diability when I was down and out after having a disasterous surgery and was told by the Social Security Office that wasn't considered a birth defect! I couldn't believe them, yes iI have my clubbed foot one size smaller than my left as well as noticable deformity of this foot .My right leg is smaller as wel as shorter than my left normal leg and foot. Why is it so hard to get help after being born with something so obvious yet others who acquire deformities from an accident get acknowledge and more acceptance from others as well as organizations willing to help them. This is so unfair,I just need some guidance.
