Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Hannah's Story

i have club feet
I am a 15 year old female and was born with bilateral club feet. Also, I was adopted and do not know my birth parents none the less anything about them. Apparently my case was so severe at birth that my adoptive parents and the doctors decided surgery was needed but could not be done till 18 months of age. I was in numerous casts until then. For the surgery, the doctors had to cut my Achilles tendon in half on both feet. The scar reaches from the mid/lower calf to the beginning of my big toe. Approximately 10 years of leg sleeping braces and orthodics later, my right foot looks almost normal but my left foot still turned in slightly and had an arch. I was always in constint pain which was not severe but there. Also, I could barely run and had to be left out of sports often. Then in 6th grade some of the best orthopedics in the United States told me that my left foot needed another surgery imeadiately. My parents decided to do the surgery. I was in the best hospital in the country for two weeks. The pain was excruciating. I had a pin in my foot for approximately 6 months. I was in a wheelchair and with numerous casts for approximately a year. Today, I am walking with ease but have occasional pain in my ankles, knees, hips, and back and am still incapable of playing sports. I am glad i did the surgeries and am happy but who knows what the future will hold.
