Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Gaina's Story

i have club feet
Hello

My name is Gaina I am 35 years old. I was born with double taliapes (thats what my Mum called it) and I also am missing my index fingers on both hands. I always took what Mum told me on face value "that my hands were linked to what happened to my feet". About 5 years ago I decided that it really didn't sound right so made some enquiries of my own. Basically what I doscovered was that club feet often went had in hand with amnio banding for the following reasons. My birth should have beena misscarriage, however it was not but my Mum did carry me very low(this was before ultrasounds)apparently because she carried so low my feet formed into double taliapes and whatever excess amnio fluid was floating around cut off my fingers and attached onto my legs. I have a small hump at the base of the spine not sure how this fits in with spina bifida but i was told by a Dr that I was lucky.
At the moment I am not feeling so luck I am suffering from an extremely swollen and sore foot it has always been the weaker of both feet but seems to be getting worse, because I have always coped and have been so strong and determoned my family don't really know what to do I am scared that perhaps my foot will give in altogethor has anyone else had this problem can anyone suggest something to help.

I am 53 and have a club foot that was treated with lengthening of the tendon in the back when I was small. My ankle has been swelling and hurting off and on for years, and I assumed it was partly from weight gain and partly just because it was weak. I found out today that most all club feet develop arthritis because of the bones not being in the right place. I will just have to live with my ankle until I cannot stand the pain, and I decide to have fusion surgery, which has a long recovery period. To help the swelling, I use heat followed by an ice pack, ibuprofen and staying off the foot for a little while.
