Danny f's Story
i have club feetMy name is Danny and i am now 28 years old.
I was born in Blackpool Victoria Hospital 1979 in those days they didn't have scans so it came a complete and painful suprise to my mother and father.
Within days i was operated on and both feet operated on and set to the normal position well as best it could at that time. I recall being in and out of hospital for regular check ups and remember briefly having a further operation at the age of about 5 where i ended up having to use a zimmer frame because they had no crutches for me, quite a thing going to school with it but i didn't let it phase me i ended up doing somersaults on it!
After regular checks and soles placed on shoes to correct my walking i was told by the drs at around 12 that my feet were the best they would ever be and was no longer required for check ups.
A round this time i joined a local air cadet corps and marched in heavy boots and often either at school or out of school i ice skated, played hockey, played football, rugby and no problems i could run fine and do normal activities with no effect on me.
At around the age of 17 it was time do something with my life and decided to join the RAF passed every stage and then the stumbling block regarding my feet bare in mind i never had any issues the dr said that he didn't think the RAF would accept this so failed me. I was gutted to say the least thats all i ever wanted to do. I appealed and had to go down to Guys hospital in London to see a Brigadier from the army who was a dr specialising in the feet area he was asked by the RAF would i make it through basic training and he answered yes he had no doubt i would but believed in 20 years time i might get artharitus lets be honest might being the word tomorrow i could get run over.
After a further appeal i was told not to apply again.
During this time i had began a job as a civil servant which i ended up doing for 8 years which was boring sat at a desk. I decided that i would try the Police and joined last year declaring my operations on my feet which the dr examkined and said they were fine i passed the physical also running my best time. I have now been in the Police for over a year.
I hope some of you reading this get some hope from my experiences and let me tell you this is the short version i'm sure if i spoke to my mother and father about it i would be typing for the next 10 days.
My mother and father pushed me at times when i was younger but it has paid off .
I am a father of 1 my daughter has no issues with her feet.
To end all those people reading this if you or someone you know suffers from club feet don't give up .
