Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Victoria Withrow's Story

my son daughter has club feet
Tyson was born with bilaterial club feet. Very severe. He was casted the night he was born until age 2. At 2 he had his first surgery. At ages 4 and 6 he had other surgeries to release his tendons. He is now 14 and although he limps a bit when he is super tired he complains of no pain. He is very active and an excellent athlete. He plays basketball, volleyball, tennis and baseball. He was the captain of both his schools volleyball and basketball teams. My heart goes out to all the parents whose child is going through the surgeries. Believe me, I can relate. I remember staying up nights praying that Tyson would walk on day. My best advice is to get your child into physical therapy atleast 1 a week. This builds muscles and helps them learn to walk properly. (no doctor recommended this to us, we just did it on our own!) Find a doctor that is pro- being active. We went to several doctors that told us to encourage Tyson to be a swimmer and get him out of all the other sports. I am so glad we did not listen. Tyson lives a very full teenage life style and is loving life! Get your child a good doctor that knows club feet and get a great physical therapist. Good luck!
