Sarah's Story
my son daughter has club feetMy daughter (who is now one!) was born with Severe Bilateral Club feet. I found out at my 20 week ultrasound that she would be born with it. It was all so scary and shocking at the time. They wouldn't even give me pictures of her from our ultrasound fearing I would sue them if they were wrong. So I prayed for the next 17 weeks until she was born. When she came out, she was so beautiful, I didn't even care about the feet :). They were very badly turned up and it, her toes were literally touching the insides of her shins and pointing straight up to her face. I knew that God had done this for a reason and that everything would be okay. So, not even 16 hours after we had gotten out of the hospital they made us take a 3 hour trip to the Gillette's Hospital in Saint Paul, MN. We then met Dr. Sunberg, who was THE BEST Doctor. She was put immediately into casts and we took the 3 hour drive WEEKLY for the first 3 months of her life and then she had one surgery to correct her Achilles Tendons, after that was done she could move her feet pretty much normally. So after the surgery, she went back into casts for 6 more weeks and her feet were doing so well she got to start wearing the Ponsetti Bar Sandels, we do alot of Rehab Therapy with her now so she can strenghten her legs and feet. She is still in the Ponsetti Sandels and we still make the 3 hour trip up to see Dr. Sunberg. But, you would probably never know she had Club Feet in the first place by looking at her. Her right foot is starting to turn in a little bit, and we are starting to notice that her joints are really hyperflexible and she cracks them really easily. We go back in a month to see Dr. Sunberg and we shall find out if she has some disorder with her joints or not. Other than that she is a healthy little one year old who can easily cruise around the house! We are hoping she will start walking soon. But to all of those out there please know that Club Feet is not something to fear. With the technology we have today, it is SO easily fixed. I was scared when I found out, but now I wouldn't change anything for the world. I love my daughter just the way she is and she is perfect!
