Janet Spann's Story
i have club feetI was born with clubbed feet (both). The doctor wanted to cut my cords at the back of my feet, my mother didn't want me to go under the knife. I was put in casts up to my hips. After the casts were removed, I was put in special shoes with a straight bar that was screwed on the bottom of the soles of the shoes. I wore those shoes until I was 4. My left foot has always given me trouble. At age 30, I started having trouble walking. My doctor ran tests and diagnosed me with a non-healing fracture along with avascular necrosis. He said this was probably from the reformation of my foot when I was in casts. I had surgery on my left foot to correct the necrosis. The bone was dead and couldn't be saved. So I have screws in the foot now and I have noticed my left foot is curving inward like at birth. The pain in unbearable. I can't put any weight on it. I asked the doctor if a bone graft would help, he said no. There's nothing else he can do for me. I accepted the fact that I will have to live with the pain. It's difficult especially when the weather is bad. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
