Patty's Story
i have club feetI was born with no ankle bone in my left foot and club feet. I went through several surgeries, hundreds of casts, Forest Gump shoes, wheel chairs and walkers. Around the age of 6 through 10 the growing pains in my ankle and left foot were horrible, I remember waking up at night crying. The Shriners did a wonderful job with my feet they look and work normaly although I have developed arthritis on the left side that seems to be getting worse with every winter, I am only 24.
My son Tanis is 16 months olds now and he also had club feet. Like me one was worse then the other but our worsts were opposite each other. At the begining of my pregnancy I brought up the idea of my baby having club foot and the doctor said that it could happen but was not likely. I felt differently and asked to have two ultrasounds done to check his development, they never cought it on the ultrasounds. Call it a mothers intuition or whatever but somehow I knew he owuld have it.
His medical attention was fantastic. He was casted when he was 3 days old and had his one and only 20 minute surgery when he was 6 weeks old and was released from doctor visits by the time he was 10 months old.
