Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Tania's Story

my son daughter has club feet
My first born was born with club feet. The first thing I said when they presented him to me as a newborn was "What's wrong with my baby's feet?" No one answered. We were blessed in that we lived near Birmingham, Alabama. There is a doctor at Children's Hospital named Scott Doyle. He has been my son's ortho. doctor since my boy was one week old. My son wore casts for nine months (Don't freak if the casts slip off. He used to kick his off all the time). My son had surgery at age nine months. He experiences pain when walking long distances, and his ankles swell at times. Overall, things are good. He handles things well, and I am very proud of him.
If you have a baby in casts, don't be surprised if people treat you like you are a monster. Someone once stopped me in K-Mart and asked me how I broke my baby's legs. Also, don't spend a lot of time blaming yourself. Just love that baby with all you've got and trust that God has awesome plans for him or her.

My daughter is now 11 and she is becoming more aware her appearance. The size of her calf and the "hole" in the side of her foot is being brought up by her classmates. She never complains of any pain, unless she has had to walk a long distance. Then she also limps alittle. I think she is stuggling to keep up her confidence with the questions and always having to explain.
