Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Matt B.'s Story

i have club feet
I was born with severe bilateral clubfeet (2nd worst case the rather experienced surgeon had ever seen), and immediately underwent the Ponseti procedure, followed by surgery. I'm not sure what the specific surgical procedure was, but the long L-shaped scars would suggest the triple-fusion, or something similar. Today my feet are fairly normal, if a bit paddle-shaped, and a few sizes small for my height (5'8", US 8.5), but I do have to choose shoes farefully, as my anklebones are fairly low, and my achilles tendons go straight to the tips of the talus bones. My feet are pefectly fine for moderate walking (preferably turf or varied terrain) and generally low-impact activities, but running is right out. Even a short distance will have me hobbled for a week or two. I count myself lucky to be as mobile as I am, and also that my surgeon was also my scoutmaster when I was a Boy Scout. He made sure I didn't let my feet stand in the way of getting out in the world.
