Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Katrina Pugh's Story

i have club feet
I was born in 1972, with club feet, the only thing is though, there are no pictures of me as a baby, and none of my family really talk about, apart from to say, "You pulled yourself everywhere, you did alright
The first time I remember my feet being a problem to me, was when I started a new school whan I seven. Because I walked with my feet turned in, I got bullied, called cripple, not picked for sports teams, and laughed at when I ran.
Senior school was not much better, I had freinds, but I had two operations during the five years I was there, and hobbling about with sticks at school, was like being a flame in a room full of horrible moths.
After leaving school at 16, most of my jobs have have been manual, I would get the odd pain, that sometimes force me to use walking aids, and have physio, but upto three years ago, my feet never really caused me any phyical pain, lots of mental pain, not being able to wear high heels, find comfy fashiable shoes, wearing skirts, dancing, altough I still went to night clubs.
I am 34 now and three years ago the pain from my right foot was found to be caused by my bones wearing away where I had my last operation done when I 15. I had an inplant and bone accelerant put in my foot late in 2004. The pain went away, but unfortunatly, returned with avengence, I can not walk properly and am in constant pain. I am due to have my eigth surgery on 23rd febuary, hopefully the pain will stay away, although I will have a limp.
But, although I have moments of, "OH WHY ME, ITS NOT FAIR" lets face it, I can walk, some people never have, I have a house, a man who loves me, and a beautiful daughter, who was born without club feet, so i also have moments of "I AM JUST SO LUCKY, LIFES GREAT!".
