Sonya's Story
my son daughter has club feetI was 18 and got pregnant. During my pregancy I had several sonars done and no one told me my child did or might have club feet. Truefully I knew nothing about club feet.
So March 12 1997 my daughter was born and both feet was turned in and her big toe was touching her ankle. Later that day a ortho doctor came in and explained what was wrong with her feet and also told us she may never walk because of how bad they were.
Thats something no mother wants to here. When she was 10 days old she started getting cast and she got cast every week til she was 8 months old and thats when she had her first surgery and after that they went in about 8 weeks after surgery and took the pins out of her feet they had put in them to keep everything in place then she was in cast another 2 months and then special shoes.
She learnded how to crawl, roll and walk with cast on and of course it was delayed cause of her illness. I couldnt work, due to all her doctors appointments and no day care would keep her cause of her limitations. Which dont think I would of left her anyway.
My husband and I took care of her. With the love and support of our family we got threw it. She had her second surgery at three.
Like I said she is now 9 and she lives with pain just about everyday. I just keep ice on it and also keep them propped up and if we do anything major with alot of walking we have to rest and also she has to stay in bed a couple days to keep her feet propped up.
But I thank God everyday that she can even walk. We know that its gonna be a challenge for the rest of her life but we will get through it all.

I have a son that was born with bilateral clubfeet as well. He had one surgery to stretch the Achilles Tendons when he was 2 months old. Now he is getting Physical Therapy. He has the shoes with the bar and also had inserts that kept his feet straight. But when he plays a lot like running and jumping too much he gets pains in his feet at night. He will cry and beg me to massage his feet. It kills me. I massage them and also give him Motrin which helps him to relieve the pain or I was told to put him in a warm bath, I was also told to massage his feet before he goes to sleep. I would like to put him in Head Start in September but I am afraid that everyday he will come home crying about his feet. I am going to speak to his ortho and see about having more surgery done to release his tendons in his arch. Maybe that will help him.
God Bless you and your family.
P.S He is going to be 3 in October.

My son Seth is 11 years old and he also can relate to your daughter, he too lives with pain everyday, some days worse than others. He has not let it get him down though, he'a played baseball, he's been in karate since he was 7 and now he's testing in September for his black belt, that will definitely be a motrin day. Seth has his own email if your daughter would like to email him. karatekidseth@yahoo.com
Hope all works out ok. God Bless.
