Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Stephanie Wasson's Story

i have club feet
my mother grew up in the SF shriner's hospital in the 1940's; she had severe bilateral club feet.

When I was born her first worry was my feet and while not severe like hers I have a R club.

She swore she'd never let them cut me like they did her. Back then they didn't know, but she had so many scars on her legs it was very hard on her self esteem and she didn't want that for me.

I had multiple braces, casts and we even tried specialty shoes.

Why I am writing is that my mother passed away when she was 39 and now I'm in my 40's. I have had knee surgery twice. But I am finding here lately that the ball of my foot and the top by the toes.

With the odd way I walk and when I drive my heel doesn't touch the floor, could it be that my bones are starting to deteriorate? If anyone has had something like this I would love to hear from you.

I went to a podiatrist recently due to the balls of my feet developing callouses and a lot of pain. He said I do not have any natural cushion between my bone and skin. Therefore, the pressure of walking is causing the extreme pain. (see Dianne's story on this site) Nothing can be done. Well, I was watching a show on shoes (the fancy heels I cannot wear) and there is an imjection that can be put in the balls of the feet! It's relatively new and only lasts 6-9 months but it would be worth it. I need to do more research.~
