Information on Club Feet in Black and White

Brent Bode's Story

i have club feet
Where to begin. My name is Brent and I'm 16 years old. I was born with a right club foot. I was treated for it at a childrens hospital in Indianapolis, IN when I was 8 months old. My story isn't really a success story like many other fortunate ones.

I've tried doing many sports thinking that I could overcome this limitation. I tried running track and did good. I played football my freshman year but my ankle hurt so bad I couldnt keep going. That pretty much leads up till present day, and things arent getting any better. My ankle hurts almost 24/7, almost bad enough to make me have to quit my job, and I'm going to see a doctor soon to see what my options are. So I will keep you posted.

Hey hows it goin? I told you I would keep you posted about my surgery so I am.

On March 29th Im having surgery being done on my foot. They are moving my heel so it is under my leg instead of out to the side, then by doing that they have to straight my foot out so there will finally be a arch is my foot.

He said to do that he might have to fuse a joint in my foot, im not sure which one, but it will cause me to lose some side to side motion but I dont have much anyways. He wants me out of school for 2 weeks and not putting any weight on it for 6 weeks after the surgery, then Im going to be in a walking cast for another 4 weeks.

He said it is going to be a very painful experience and will take alot of determination on my part.

Well thats all I know right now, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Brent, I know it has been a while since your surgery but how are you doing up to now. My son whom is 15 has already had that surgery last July 2006 and is doing better. He was waring out his shoe. He to has one clubfoot. He still skateboards and is active in PE at school. He has had 7 surgeries and they just get better and better. Let us know how your doing. Debbie
